Russian Airports in Murmansk Region Closed Amid Four Days of Drone Threats
Aug 21, 2024, 03:01 PM
Russian authorities have imposed flight restrictions and closed airports in the Murmansk region amid ongoing drone threats. The TASS news agency reported the closure of airspace over Murmansk and Apatity, citing an anonymous source. Ukrainian long-range kamikaze drones, converted from light aircraft, were reportedly shot down by small arms fire near Vysokii, a location associated with the strategically important Olenya Air Base. The Murmansk region has experienced drone attacks for four consecutive days, prompting the evacuation of workers from local enterprises. Governor Chibis confirmed that Murmansk and Khibiny airports are temporarily not receiving or dispatching flights due to the drone threat.
