Biden's Executive Action Reduces Illegal Border Crossings by 40% to 2,400 Encounters, Says Mayorkas
Jun 26, 2024, 05:34 PM
The Biden administration's recent executive action on asylum processing has led to a significant decrease in illegal border crossings. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the average number of encounters by Border Patrol agents has dropped by more than 40% to 2,400 encounters per day over the past three weeks. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas praised the effectiveness of these actions during a visit to the southern border in Tucson, Arizona. The administration noted that while the numbers have decreased, they remain too high to lift the current restrictions. Mayorkas highlighted that the administration had rescinded many of the previous administration's immigration policies, which he claims contributed to the initial surge in illegal crossings. President Biden took 94 executive actions on immigration in his first 100 days, and there have been nearly 10 million illegal immigrant encounters nationwide, five times as many as under President Trump.
