VisitU.S. B-2 Bombers Strike Five Iran-Backed Houthi Weapons Facilities in Yemen
Oct 17, 2024, 02:21 AM
On Wednesday evening, the U.S. military conducted precision airstrikes on five hardened underground weapons storage facilities in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the city of Saada. The strikes were carried out by U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit stealth bombers flown from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, marking their first combat use since operations against ISIS in Libya. U.S. Central Command oversaw the operation. U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that the facilities housed advanced conventional weapons used by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels to target civilian vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis' activities threaten regional security, prompting this significant military response.
