No. 18 Iowa State Upsets No. 13 Miami 42-41 with Late TD in Pop-Tarts Bowl, Secures First 11-Win Season
Dec 28, 2024, 09:33 PM
The No. 18 Iowa State Cyclones defeated the No. 13 Miami Hurricanes 42-41 in the 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, securing their first-ever 11-win season. The high-scoring match was characterized by minimal defense and an abundance of touchdowns, including eight consecutive touchdown drives in the first half. Iowa State's quarterback Rocco Becht, named the game's Most Valuable Player, led a decisive 15-play, 84-yard drive culminating in a game-winning touchdown with 56 seconds remaining. The victory spoiled the final college game of Miami's quarterback Cam Ward and left the Hurricanes with a 10-3 season record. The Pop-Tarts Bowl featured unique celebratory elements, including sprinkles on the sidelines, goalposts wrapped as Pop-Tarts, and an edible mascot. Post-game, Becht selected the frosted cinnamon roll Pop-Tart mascot for the traditional celebratory sacrifice.
