Nearly 14,000 US Children Underwent Sex-Change Procedures from 2019-2023, Costing $120 Million, Watchdog Reveals
Oct 8, 2024, 05:10 PM
A new database from the medical watchdog group Do No Harm has revealed that nearly 14,000 children in the United States underwent sex-change procedures between 2019 and 2023. The data, which includes surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone therapies, indicates that U.S. hospitals charged at least $120 million for these procedures. The analysis, based on insurance claims, suggests the actual numbers could be higher as it does not account for self-pay or certain insurance claims. The Manhattan Institute corroborated these findings, reporting that 5,000 to 6,000 U.S. teen girls had their breasts amputated for sex change purposes during the same period. Additionally, a significant number of these procedures were performed on children as young as 12.5 years old. The database also highlights the involvement of 225 hospitals across the country, with Seattle Children’s Hospital ranking fourth highest for such treatments. The Catholic healthcare system also plays an outsized role in these procedures, contributing to the industry's revenue of well over $100 million.
