IDF Confirms Death of Hamas Military Chief Muhammad Deif in July 13 Khan Yunis Airstrike
Jul 21, 2024, 09:06 AM
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the death of Muhammad Deif, the commander of Hamas's military wing, following an airstrike on July 13 in the southern Gaza Strip near Khan Yunis. Deif, who had previously survived six assassination attempts, was targeted in a strike last weekend. The IDF had initially awaited final confirmation but officially announced his death on July 21, stating they now have irrefutable evidence. Deif, also known as the leader of the Al-Qassam Brigades, was a significant figure in Hamas, second only to Yahya Sinwar in Gaza, and was known for his role in orchestrating the October 7 massacre and other attacks against Israel. The elimination of Deif is seen as a major blow to Hamas, with the IDF claiming that half of Hamas's military wing leaders have been killed, and that Hamas fighters are now in 'survival mode.'
