LA Galaxy Capture Sixth MLS Cup, Brugman Named MVP in 2-1 Win Over Red Bulls
Dec 7, 2024, 11:14 PM
The Los Angeles Galaxy secured their first MLS Cup title in a decade by defeating the New York Red Bulls 2-1 on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The victory at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, marked the Galaxy’s record-setting sixth championship, solidifying their status as the most successful team in Major League Soccer history. After finishing near the bottom of the Western Conference in 2023, the Galaxy completed a remarkable turnaround under head coach Greg Vanney, a former Galaxy player and UCLA alumnus. Key contributions came from Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljic, who scored the goals in the final, and Gastón Brugman, who was named the Most Valuable Player. The Galaxy remained undefeated at home this season, and their win ended the Red Bulls’ Cinderella run. This championship is the Galaxy’s sixth in ten MLS Cup final appearances.
