Ex-Officer Brett Hankison Convicted in Retrial of Violating Breonna Taylor's Civil Rights
Nov 2, 2024, 02:27 AM
A federal jury has convicted former Louisville police detective Brett Hankison of violating Breonna Taylor's civil rights during a botched March 2020 drug raid that resulted in her death. Hankison fired 10 shots through Taylor's glass door and windows into her apartment, some of which entered neighboring units. His bullets did not strike anyone. The conviction marks the first time an officer directly involved in the raid has been found guilty. The jury's late-night verdict came after over 20 hours of deliberation in the retrial of the federal case against Hankison. He faces life in prison.
