In 2024, Earth experienced its hottest year on record since 1850, with global average temperatures exceeding the 1.5°C warming threshold above pre-industrial levels for the first time, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), the European Union's climate monitoring agency. The global average temperature in 2024 was 1.6°C higher than pre-industrial levels, surpassing the target set by the Paris Agreement to limit warming to 1.5°C. This unprecedented rise in temperature has pushed the planet to levels never experienced by modern humans, leading to extreme weather events such as heatwaves, floods, droughts, and hurricanes. Despite the alarming data, scientists emphasize that it is not too late to act against climate change.
