The Biden administration is planning to deploy an advanced Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) antimissile system to Israel, along with under 100 American troops to operate it, according to US officials on Sunday. The deployment would mark a significant step in US efforts to bolster Israel's defenses and could be the first time US combat troops are stationed in the country. This move represents a departure from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's principle that "Israel defends itself by itself." The THAAD system, designed to intercept ballistic missiles, aims to enhance Israel's protection against potential attacks, possibly from Iran. The THAAD enabling radar is reportedly already installed in Israel.
