Israel Alleges 2024 Iran-Backed Cyber Campaign to Intimidate Athletes at Paris Olympics
Jul 25, 2024, 05:00 PM
Israel's foreign minister has sent a letter to France outlining intelligence assessments of an Iran regime-backed plot to attack Israeli athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Israel's National Cyber Directorate and cyber security agency revealed that Iran is behind an intimidation campaign against the Israeli delegation, including the dissemination of personal information and sending threatening text messages and emails. The campaign involves Iranian hackers publishing personal info of Israeli athletes, including those who served in the IDF and inviting them to their own funerals. In response, Israel has equipped its delegation with an armed security detail. French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal remarked that attacks of this nature are 'inevitable.'
