Claude Allègre, Ex-Education Minister and Climate Skeptic, Dies at 87

Claude Allègre, former French Minister of Education and renowned geochemist, died in Paris on January 4 at the age of 87. His death was announced by his son to AFP. Allègre served under Prime Minister Lionel Jospin from 1997 to 2000 and was known for his attempts to reform the French education system, famously advocating to "dégraisser le mammouth" ("slim down the mammoth") to reduce bureaucracy. A recipient of the CNRS Gold Medal in 1994, he was internationally recognized for his scientific contributions. Allègre was also known for his controversial views on climate change, being a prominent climate change skeptic in France.
