New Orleans Assistant District Attorney Ian Kersting Found Dead by Self-Inflicted Gunshot in Orleans Parish DA's Office

Ian Kersting, a 34-year-old Assistant District Attorney in New Orleans, was found dead on Saturday night in an apparent suicide. Kersting was discovered inside the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office building at 619 South White St. with a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 9 p.m. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him deceased at the scene. Kersting, who worked as a prosecutor specializing in sexual assault cases within the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) unit, was described by the DA’s office as a beloved member of their team. The office extended their condolences to his family and requested privacy for those affected by this tragedy.
