VisitFBI and CISA Confirm State-Sponsored Chinese Hackers Breached AT&T and Verizon
Nov 14, 2024, 12:45 AM
Chinese state-sponsored hackers have conducted a broad and significant cyber-espionage campaign, breaching networks of multiple U.S. telecommunications companies, including AT&T and Verizon, according to joint statements from the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). "The U.S. government's continued investigation into the People's Republic of China targeting of commercial telecommunications infrastructure has revealed a broad and significant cyber espionage campaign," the agencies stated. The investigation revealed that these PRC-affiliated actors compromised telecommunications infrastructure to steal customer call records and private communications, particularly targeting individuals involved in government and political activities. The hackers also accessed wiretap data provided to law enforcement through court orders.
