Judge Allows Musk's $1 Million Daily Giveaway After Lawyers Admit Winners Not Random
Nov 4, 2024, 10:03 PM
A Pennsylvania judge has declined to block Elon Musk's $1 million daily giveaway to registered voters in swing states ahead of the U.S. presidential election. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner had sought an injunction to halt the giveaway, alleging it constituted an illegal lottery under state law. Musk's lawyer, Chris Gober, argued in court that the giveaway is not a lottery because the winners are not chosen at random but are selected based on their potential as effective spokespeople for Musk's pro-Trump America PAC. "There is no prize to be won, instead recipients must fulfill contractual obligations to serve as a spokesperson for the PAC," Gober said during the hearing before Judge Angelo Foglietta. The judge ruled in favor of Musk, allowing the contest to continue as planned. The giveaway, which began in mid-October and is set to end on November 5, offers $1 million daily to selected voters who have registered with the PAC.
