Russian Hackers Use PureHVNC, Infostealer Malware in Global Phishing Campaign
Aug 14, 2024, 12:58 PM
A new report reveals that Russian intelligence-linked hackers are conducting a global phishing campaign targeting critics of the Kremlin. The campaign uses sophisticated phishing emails, including PureHVNC and infostealer malware, to attack American think tanks, Russian journalists, human rights groups, and a former US Ambassador to Ukraine. According to research by Access Now and Citizen Lab, the hackers are employing deep knowledge of their targets to craft credible and personalized phishing attempts. The Federal Security Service (FSB) has been implicated in targeting Russian, Belarusian, and Ukrainian human rights activists by posing as grant providers and NGOs.
