Canadian David DePape Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Aggravated Kidnapping in Paul Pelosi Attack
Oct 29, 2024, 08:10 PM
David DePape, a Canadian man who attacked Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with a hammer in their San Francisco home in 2022, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on state charges of aggravated kidnapping and other offenses. This sentence follows his earlier federal sentence of 30 years. During the sentencing, DePape made rambling, tearful statements about his conspiracy theories, including claiming 'I'm a psychic.' Judge Harry Dorfman stated: 'It's my intention that Mr. DePape will never get out of prison, he can never be paroled.' District Attorney Brooke Jenkins remarked that DePape is 'now being held accountable and will spend the rest of his life in prison.' Paul Pelosi submitted a letter to the court, expressing the impact of the attack on his life and his wife's, stating, 'To protect my healing, I still do not address the assault with my wife or anyone else. Nor do I discuss the trauma experienced by my wife who remains under 24-hour security two years later.'
