After Assad's Fall, HTS-Linked Mohammed Al-Bashir Named Interim Syrian PM Until March 2025
Dec 10, 2024, 12:21 PM
Mohammed Al-Bashir has been appointed as the interim Prime Minister of Syria to lead the transitional government until March 1, 2025, following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime. Al-Bashir, an engineer and politician born in 1983 in Idlib, previously headed the Syrian Salvation Government that administered Idlib province and is closely associated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). He holds degrees in electrical engineering from Aleppo University and in Sharia and Law from Idlib University. His appointment was made official after meetings with rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani (Ahmed al-Sharaa) and outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Jalali to coordinate a peaceful transfer of power and prevent chaos in Syria. The transitional government plans to reorganize the armed forces and implement security measures.
