ICC Issues Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and Deif for War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity in Gaza
Nov 21, 2024, 12:28 PM
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif. The warrants accuse them of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the war in Gaza, including targeting civilians and using starvation as a weapon. Deif was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza in July. The ICC's pre-trial chamber issued the warrants for alleged crimes committed from at least October 8, 2023, until at least May 20, 2024, the day the warrants were issued. The court rejected Israel's challenges to its jurisdiction, and the investigation into crimes during the war in the Gaza Strip is ongoing.
