U.S. Embassy in Kyiv Closes Amid Threat of Significant Russian Air Attack on November 20
Nov 20, 2024, 09:24 AM
The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv temporarily closed on November 20 after receiving specific information about a potential significant Russian air attack on the same day. Out of an abundance of caution, embassy employees have been instructed to shelter in place, and U.S. citizens in Ukraine are advised to identify air raid shelters and be prepared to immediately seek shelter if an air alert is announced. The closure comes as Russia has vowed to respond after Ukraine fired longer-range U.S. missiles at its territory for the first time. Other embassies, including those of Italy, Spain, and Greece, have also temporarily closed in Kyiv due to the threat.
