VisitMeta Seeks 1–4 GW Nuclear Power for AI Data Centers by Early 2030s
Dec 3, 2024, 08:03 PM
Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, has announced plans to explore nuclear energy to power its artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. This move aligns Meta with other tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, who are also turning to nuclear generation to meet the energy demands of their AI operations. Meta aims to secure between 1 to 4 gigawatts of new nuclear generation by the early 2030s, as part of a broader industry shift towards sustainable, low-carbon energy solutions for data-intensive AI systems. The company has issued a request for proposals (RFP) seeking partners for full-scale nuclear projects, from real estate acquisition to plant operation.
