Ukraine Considers Lifting Wartime Drone Export Ban, Eyes $20 Billion Revenue
Oct 9, 2024, 06:59 AM
Ukraine is considering lifting its wartime ban on drone exports to boost its domestic production and match Russia's capabilities on the battlefield. The ban, implemented in 2022 after Russia's full-scale invasion, was initially meant to ensure Ukraine's army received all necessary supplies. Officials and industry participants argue that scaling up production is imperative, as Ukrainian forces are experiencing a significant shortage of drones. The move could potentially generate up to $20 billion in revenue, which would be used to manufacture more drones and fund other military supplies. Ukraine's drone industry, including pioneering technologies like the Sea Baby drones, is poised to expand rapidly with the potential influx of funds. Dmitry Khasapov, head of Ucropsystems, highlighted the huge shortage of drones. The Financial Times reported on the potential revenue from lifting the ban.
