NTSB: Tesla Semi Fire on I-80 Extinguished with 50,000 Gallons of Water
Sep 13, 2024, 05:49 PM
A Tesla Semi electric truck fire in Northern California required approximately 50,000 gallons of water to extinguish, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The incident, which occurred last month in August on Interstate 80 near Emigrant Gap, resulted from a single-vehicle collision and led to the freeway being closed for 15 hours. Firefighters also used an aircraft to drop fire retardant on the immediate area to control the blaze. The NTSB is now investigating the fire risks associated with large lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. The report was released on Thursday.
