Afghan National and Juvenile in Oklahoma City Charged with Plotting Election Day Mass Shooting for ISIS
Oct 8, 2024, 10:57 PM
Federal authorities have arrested an Afghan national and a juvenile co-conspirator residing in Oklahoma City on charges of plotting an Election Day mass shooting in the United States on behalf of ISIS. The Justice Department announced that 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, who entered the U.S. on a Special Immigrant Visa in September 2021 following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, was arrested after allegedly planning an attack targeting large crowds on Election Day. According to the criminal complaint, on October 7, Tawhedi and the juvenile met with undercover FBI agents at a rural location in Oklahoma and purchased AK-47 rifles and ammunition as part of the plot. Tawhedi is charged with providing material support to ISIS and conspiring to receive weapons and ammunition. The FBI stated that the arrest was made following an investigation by the Oklahoma City Field Office.
