Study Finds Daily and Near-Daily Marijuana Use Surpasses Alcohol Consumption in the U.S.
May 22, 2024, 01:45 PM
Daily and near-daily marijuana use has now surpassed similar levels of alcohol consumption in the United States, according to a new study published in the journal Addiction. The study, which analyzed national survey data over four decades, found that more than 40% of U.S. cannabis users are daily or near-daily users. This trend indicates that marijuana use is becoming increasingly prevalent, despite previous assumptions that it might reduce alcohol consumption. KeithNHumphreys noted that while marijuana is less harmful than alcohol, the increasing use of marijuana adds to the levels of somewhat harmful substance use.
