Scientists Solve 500-Year-Old Mystery: Christopher Columbus's Remains Confirmed in Seville Cathedral
Oct 11, 2024, 06:45 PM
Spanish forensic scientists have definitively confirmed that the human remains buried in the Cathedral of Seville belong to Christopher Columbus. After more than 20 years of DNA analysis, led by Professor José Antonio Lorente of the University of Granada, the team has solved the 500-year-old mystery surrounding Columbus's final resting place. The researchers compared DNA from the bones in Seville with that of Columbus's brother and son to confirm the match with 'absolute reliability.' While this discovery confirms that Columbus is indeed entombed in Seville, the mystery of his true origins remains unresolved. The scientists plan to use the extracted genetic material to shed light on Columbus's origins soon.
