Intel Wins EU Court Battle Over €1.06 Billion 2009 Antitrust Fine
Oct 24, 2024, 07:59 AM
Intel has secured a significant legal victory in its long-running antitrust battle with the European Union. The European Court of Justice ruled in favor of Intel, annulling a €1.06 billion fine imposed by the European Commission in 2009. The case, which has spanned nearly two decades, centered on allegations that Intel had abused its dominant market position by offering illegal rebates to PC manufacturers such as Dell, HP, NEC, and Lenovo. The fine, initially equivalent to $1.45 billion, was criticized by Mario Draghi. Despite this win, Intel remains liable for a separate €376.36 million fine in a related case.
