VisitRussia Fires 210 Missiles and Drones at Ukraine, Damaging Energy Grid
Nov 17, 2024, 11:05 AM
Russia launched one of its largest missile and drone attacks on Ukraine in months, targeting energy infrastructure across the country. Overnight on November 17, Russian forces fired approximately 120 missiles and 90 drones, including cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles such as Kalibr, Kinzhal, Iskander-M, and Zircon, at various regions including Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Lviv, and others. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia launched around 210 missiles and drones during the mass strike. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that air defense systems, including F-16 fighter jets, intercepted 102 missiles and 42 drones, with F-16 pilots shooting down about 10 air targets. Despite the interceptions, the attacks caused severe damage to Ukraine's power grid, leading to widespread power outages and emergency blackouts. At least seven civilians were killed, including two in Mykolaiv. The strikes represent Russia's renewed effort to cripple Ukraine's energy infrastructure as winter approaches.
