EU Bans Russian Media Access from June 25, Moscow Retaliates Against 80 European Media
Jun 25, 2024, 11:09 AM
The European Union has enacted a ban on access to several Russian media outlets, including RIA Novosti, Izvestia, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, and the Prague-based Voice of Europe, effective from June 25. This decision, approved by the EU Council on June 24, aims to curb propaganda within the bloc. In response, Moscow has announced countermeasures, restricting access to over 80 European media outlets, including prominent publications such as Germany's Spiegel, Die Zeit, and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Spain's El Mundo and El Pais, and Italy's La Stampa. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that these retaliatory measures will apply to media outlets from more than 20 EU countries, including public broadcasters. If the EU lifts its sanctions, Moscow has indicated it will review its retaliatory actions.
