Sweden Urges EU to Designate IRGC as Terrorist Organization After Gun and Bomb Attacks
Oct 13, 2024, 07:36 PM
Sweden is urging the European Union to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization following a series of gun and bomb attacks against Israeli targets in Sweden. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized the need for a collective EU response to address the IRGC's involvement in these incidents. The Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) has confirmed that the IRGC is using Swedish gangs as proxies for these attacks. This call for action, made on Sunday, comes shortly after a senior EU official indicated that a Dusseldorf court ruling could provide sufficient grounds for the terror listing, making the decision a political one. The EU's Legal Service has also weighed in on the matter.
