Supreme Court Halts Probe into Isha Foundation After Daughters, 24 and 27, Affirm Voluntary Stay
Oct 3, 2024, 03:05 PM
The Supreme Court of India, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, has transferred to itself a habeas corpus petition originally filed in the Madras High Court concerning allegations of illegal confinement of two women at the Isha Foundation, founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. Acting on the High Court's directive, a 150-member police team, including health officials and psychiatrists, conducted a search at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The two women, aged 24 and 27, appeared before the Supreme Court via video conferencing and stated that they were residing at the ashram voluntarily and that their father had been harassing them for the past eight years. "We are at Isha Center by our own will," they told the court. In response, the Supreme Court halted the ongoing probe and restrained any coercive action against the foundation.
