The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a temporary ban on drone operations over multiple areas in New Jersey until January 17, 2025, citing "special security reasons" and concerns over an "imminent security threat." The restrictions affect 22 critical infrastructure locations, including power stations, military installations, and several towns across the state. The action comes after weeks of reports about unexplained bright lights and mysterious drone flights hovering over New Jersey communities. The FAA warned in a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that the U.S. government may use "deadly force" against any drones that pose an imminent threat. The designated areas are now considered national defense airspace, and exceptions to the ban require special government approval.
