VisitCongo Lawyers Present New Evidence Against Apple on Conflict Minerals via Rwanda
May 22, 2024, 04:10 PM
International lawyers representing the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have presented new evidence suggesting that Apple could be sourcing minerals from conflict areas in eastern Congo. This evidence, reportedly gathered from whistleblowers, has deepened concerns about the tech giant's supply chain practices. The lawyers claim that Apple has not responded to requests for information regarding the use of conflict minerals in its products, including the iPhone. The investigation indicates that smuggled minerals, such as cobalt, may be routed through Rwanda before reaching Apple. These conflict areas are notably in the North east of Congo-Kinshasa. The DRC government is urging Apple to address these allegations and provide transparency about its mineral sourcing.
