Families of Baltimore Bridge Collapse Victims Sue Dali Shipowner, DOJ Seeks $100M Over March Incident
Sep 18, 2024, 03:00 PM
The families of three of the six immigrant construction workers who died in the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse are pursuing legal action against the owner of the cargo ship Dali, which crashed into the bridge nearly six months ago in March. They seek to hold the shipowner accountable for the incident. Additionally, the U.S. Justice Department has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the owner and operator of the Dali, accusing them of negligence and mismanagement. The DOJ aims to recover costs incurred for cleanup and reopening the port of Baltimore, as well as punitive damages. The collapse, which the DOJ described as 'entirely avoidable,' resulted in significant disruption to the region’s transportation network. The families spoke out for the first time on Tuesday afternoon.
