Biden stated that Russia and Iran failed to defend the Syrian regime and pledged that the United States would provide humanitarian aid to Syria and support its neighbors during the period of transition. He emphasized that Assad must be held accountable for his actions, including the case of missing American journalist Austin Tice. Biden noted that the U.S. remains committed to fighting ISIS in Syria and that sanctions against Iran and Assad will continue.
