Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz Resigns From Congress Amid Applause

Matt Gaetz, Republican representative from Florida, has sent a letter to the House Clerk indicating that he will not serve in the 119th Congress, effectively resigning his seat. The announcement was made by Acting House Clerk Kevin McCumber and was met with audible sarcastic "awwwwwww" and applause from Democrats in the House chamber. Florida is declaring a vacancy and is mailing out ballots for the vacancy in Gaetz's district.
