At least 10,457 migrants from 28 countries died or disappeared while attempting to reach Spain by sea in 2024, according to a report released Thursday by the Spanish NGO Caminando Fronteras. This figure represents an average of nearly 30 deaths per day and marks a 58% increase compared to the previous year, making it the deadliest year since the organization began tracking data in 2007. The Atlantic route to the Canary Islands remained the most lethal migration route worldwide, accounting for 9,757 of the total victims.
