Amid Over 10.8 Million Illegal Crossings, Harris Opposes Mass Deportations, Supports Pathway to Citizenship
Oct 23, 2024, 03:31 PM
Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed support for providing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants currently in the United States, stating her opposition to mass deportations. In an interview with Telemundo, Harris emphasized the need for immigration reform and advocated for amnesty measures. This position has drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers and commentators, who cite data alleging that under the Biden-Harris administration, there have been over 10.8 million illegal crossings nationwide, including over 8.7 million at the southern border. Critics highlight that over 390 individuals on the terrorist watchlist have been encountered by authorities. Opponents argue that these immigration policies have led to increased crime, emboldened cartels, and endangered American communities, pointing to fentanyl becoming the number one killer of Americans aged 18 to 45. In September 2024 alone, there were reportedly over 101,000 illegal crossings at the southern border. They also note that Border Patrol agents face threats from Mexican cartels, asserting that Harris's approach has contributed to what they describe as the worst border crisis in American history.
