Tesla Plans Four New Batteries by 2026, Including for Robotaxi and Cybertruck
Oct 3, 2024, 01:14 PM
Tesla is planning to develop four new versions of its in-house batteries by 2026, including one specifically for its forthcoming Robotaxi. This ambitious effort will also power the Cybertruck and other future electric vehicles. The company aims to integrate dry-coated cathodes into Cybertruck batteries by mid-2025. However, Tesla is currently facing challenges with a new manufacturing process that aims to cut costs, achieving only a low 30% yield at present. This development follows Elon Musk's 2020 announcement and is intended to give Tesla greater flexibility in vehicle design and better differentiate its cars from competitors. One of the new batteries, a special 4680 battery, is expected to be announced next week.
