World's Oldest Man, WWII Veteran Born Same Year as Titanic Sinking, John Tinniswood Dies at 112
Nov 26, 2024, 01:45 PM
John Alfred Tinniswood, the world's oldest man and the oldest surviving male World War II veteran, has died at the age of 112 in a care home in Southport, England. Born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912—just four months after the Titanic sank—Tinniswood was named the UK's oldest man in 2020 and became the world's oldest living man in April 2024 after the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez from Venezuela. Tinniswood attributed his longevity to luck, regular exercise, and a portion of fish and chips every Friday. He famously said, "If you drink too much or you eat too much or you walk too much; if you do too much of anything, you're going to suffer eventually." He married his wife Blodwen in 1942 and was a lifelong Liverpool FC fan.
