UK Detects First Case of Clade Ib Mpox Strain; Risk Remains Low

The UK has detected its first confirmed case of a new mpox strain, identified as Clade Ib. The patient, who had recently returned from Africa, is being treated at a high-level isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital in London. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has stated that the risk to the general population remains low despite the new strain appearing to spread more rapidly and being potentially deadly.
