Biden to Announce Final $500 Million Ukraine Aid at Ramstein Before Trump Takes Office
Jan 8, 2025, 07:40 PM
The Biden administration is preparing to announce a final military aid package of $500 million for Ukraine, expected to be unveiled on January 9 during a meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. This brings the total U.S. military assistance to Ukraine under President Joe Biden to approximately $65 billion. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will host the gathering with representatives from around 50 allied nations, including Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, to discuss continued support for Ukraine. The aid package will draw from existing U.S. stockpiles, aiming to deliver most of the weapons before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is anticipated to attend the meeting to mobilize allies ahead of the U.S. administration transition. Despite Congress approving approximately $4 billion in aid, around $3.8 billion will remain unallocated for the incoming Trump administration to decide upon.
