Assad Flees Syria as Al-Qaeda Offshoot Rebels Declare Victory in Damascus
Dec 8, 2024, 03:41 AM
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly fled the country following a rapid offensive by rebels, including an Al-Qaeda offshoot, who have entered the capital, Damascus. Rebel leaders declared the fall of Assad's regime on December 8, claiming that Damascus is now free from Assad's rule. According to Rami Abdurrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Assad took a flight out of Damascus early Sunday, with his whereabouts currently unknown. The rebels have announced victory and the end of Assad's rule after storming the capital.
