May 19, 2024, 01:52 PM
A Mi-171 helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and several senior officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and East Azerbaijan Governor Ayatollah Al-Hashem, experienced a hard landing near Jolfa in the East Azerbaijan region of Iran. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 19, 2024, during Raisi's visit to the region. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site, but dense fog and difficult terrain near the Sangun copper mine are complicating their efforts. The condition of President Raisi and the other passengers remains unknown. The Iranian Red Crescent and other security and military forces have launched a large-scale operation to locate the helicopter.
