Kenya Expands Plastic Ban, Requires Biodegradable Bags for Organic Waste
Apr 23, 2024, 03:45 AM
The Kenyan government has expanded its environmental regulations by banning all plastic bags for garbage collection, building on the 2017 ban on single-use plastic bags. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) announced that effective within 90 days from April 8, 2024, all organic waste must be disposed of in 100% biodegradable bags and must be collected separately from other types of waste. This move further establishes Kenya as a leader in combating plastic pollution.
