Dec 29, 2024, 12:57 PM
Turkey has unveiled a $14.11 billion regional development plan aimed at narrowing the economic disparity between its predominantly Kurdish southeast region and the rest of the country. The plan, announced in Sanliurfa, is set to be implemented through the Southeastern Anatolian Project (GAP) by 2028, with the goal of creating over 570,000 jobs. The initiative includes 198 projects, to which a total of 496 billion Turkish Lira will be allocated between 2024 and 2028. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz described the new GAP Action Plan as a new horizon for the region's future, emphasizing its focus on completing irrigation investments, promoting smart agriculture, tourism-driven growth, and improving the investment environment.
