Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Big Freedia Sued by Da Showstoppaz for Copyright Infringement Over 'Break My Soul'
May 23, 2024, 10:31 AM
Beyoncé, along with Jay-Z and Big Freedia, is facing a copyright infringement lawsuit over her hit song 'Break My Soul.' The lawsuit, filed by New Orleans bounce group Da Showstoppaz, alleges that the song illegally sampled key lyrics and melody from their 2002 track 'Release a Wiggle.' Da Showstoppaz claim that Beyoncé and the other parties knowingly used elements from their song without authorization. The track 'Break My Soul' is part of Beyoncé's 'Renaissance' album. Additionally, Da Showstoppaz allege that Big Freedia’s 'Explode' also used lyrics and melody from 'Release a Wiggle.'
