Honda and Nissan Start Merger Talks to Create World's No.3 Automaker with 30 Trillion Yen Sales
Dec 23, 2024, 07:57 AM
Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. have officially announced the start of merger talks, aiming to create the world's third-largest automaker by sales with combined sales of 30 trillion yen. The Japanese carmakers plan to finalize a merger agreement by June 2025 and establish a holding company, expected to be listed in August 2026. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is also expected to join the talks and may become part of the merged entity. The merger aims to address overcapacity and meet the substantial investment needs in electric and autonomous vehicle technologies. The companies reported the decision to the government and held a joint press conference on Monday to announce the talks.
