Colombia Leads 62-Country Operation, Seizes Over $8.4 Billion in Drugs
Nov 28, 2024, 12:01 PM
In a significant blow to international drug trafficking, Colombian authorities, in collaboration with security agencies from over 62 countries, have seized a record-breaking 225 metric tons of cocaine in a six-week operation. The operation, which took place between October and November, not only resulted in the capture of drugs but also the discovery of a new Pacific trafficking route from South America to Australia. The Colombian Navy intercepted three narco-submarines carrying 14 tons of cocaine destined for Australia, where the street value of the drug is estimated at $240,000 per kilo, making the total value of the seized drugs over $3.3 billion. The operation also led to the arrest of 400 individuals and the seizure of an additional 1,400 tons of drugs, valued at more than $8.4 billion.
