CNN Implements 1-2 Minute Delay, Mute Button for Biden-Trump Debate
Jun 27, 2024, 06:30 PM
CNN will implement a 1-2 minute delay for tonight's presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, significantly longer than the standard 7-second delay. This change could allow CNN to edit parts of the broadcast. The debate, which will be held in Atlanta, is the first of the 2024 presidential election cycle and will last for 90 minutes with two commercial breaks. Candidates will not be allowed to consult aides during breaks. The debate comes as Biden, 81, emerges from a week of preparations at Camp David. Both candidates are expected to address key issues such as the economy and foreign policy, with Trump vowing to end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours if elected. Additionally, comments made by Trump in previous debates could be used as evidence in his federal election interference case. A new book by Biden Senior Advisor Bob Bauer titled 'Democracy in Crisis' has been released just five days before the debate. The debate will feature a mute button to manage speaking times. The White House Correspondents Association has expressed concern over CNN's decision to deny access to pool reporters. The debate will be broadcast live on CNN at 9 p.m. ET.
